Sessions in 08!ByHugh McInnish The title of the proposed resolution I have sent to the Alabama GOP tells the story. The title is Urging the Candidacy of Senator Jeff Sessions for President of the United States. The few people I have had time to mention this to have been taken by surprise. This is far from “something everybody has been talking about.” In fact nobody, as near as I can tell, has even thought about it, much less talked about it. But it’s time they did. Let me tell you why. These times have begun to try men’s souls, and if I am any judge at all they are about to try them almost as strongly as in Revolutionary times. Our country is being invaded by masses of illegal aliens, sometimes moving under the cover of “undocumented immigrants,” and this invasion, bad as it is, is steadily growing more threatening to the safety and integrity of the country. Already it has come to the stage where tens of thousands of foreign lawbreakers march in the streets waving foreign flags and screaming to us that they will soon conquer a large piece of the United States and annex it to Mexico. Meanwhile those who should be our leaders in stopping this invasion, are not just doing nothing, but are proposing measures that would increase the invaders numbers and strengthen them in their war of aggression. Doesn’t anyone care? It looks like there are no patriots left in Washington. But there is one. Our own Senator Jeff Sessions has repeatedly stepped up to the public forum and, in very certain terms, explained the seriousness of this attack, denounced the weakness of present defensive measures, and exposed the hypocrisy of feigned solutions. See the 15 loopholes which he revealed in the proposed Senate immigration bill. And make sure you read all the way down to number 15. It requires the states to admit illegals to their colleges and universities at the same tuition they charge in-state students. Since March 27 Jeff Sessions has given no fewer than 41 public statements, many of them in the Senate and on national TV, germane to illegal immigration. See as examples his video of 28 March, or his appearance with Bill O’Reilly on the same date, or his interview with Lou Dobbs on 29 March. The popular outrage with illegal immigration has been swelling for months, but still hasn’t reached its crescendo. But it will, and when it does Senator Sessions will be standing tall on the high ground. There are of course other issues, and Senator Sessions hews to the correct position on them all-- on taxes, on the family, on the military, and on national sovereignty. But even without psychic powers it is evident that illegal immigration will be the predominant issue in 2008. I have been asked, Has anybody discussed this with Jeff? The answer is emphatically no. Nor should anyone do so. When the Selective Service Board decides to draft a person they don’t ask his permission, they just do it. And so it is now. Jeff has nothing to do with this, since he is the draftee. But we are the selection board, and for my part I say let’s classify him 1-A and send him his notice.
(My proposed resolution, seen here, will be voted on at the Alabama GOP meeting on 15 July.)
